The hand signals are easy to learn in 10 minutes and the conductor's role is to help shape the improvisations in interesting ways. All types of performers (instrumentalists, vocal artists, laptop sound artists, keyboards, strings, wind instruments, percussionists, found & hand made instruments, melodicas, synths, smart phones and anything else that inspires you) are welcome and invited to explore this style of improvisation with us!

"Entangled Pathways" CD Release - Gilliam, Milmine, Pottie Trio
Concert at 9:00 PM
Bill Gilliam (piano), Kayla Milmine (soprano sax) and Ambrose Pottie (drums) will perform music from their latest CD "Entangled Pathways" combining composed themes with free-floating melodies, jazz idioms and modal-chromatic tonalities as well as freely improvised creations.
“Three important contributors to Toronto's improvised music community - Bill Gilliam (piano), Kayla Milmine (soprano saxophone) and Ambrose Pottie (drums) - combine in this trio. While their exploration of free improvisation is impressive, what hooked me was the composing - their interesting melodies always create a home base from which the soloing departs and, ultimately, returns”
Josh Grossman, TD Toronto Jazz Festival artistic director.
Rowland Sutherland – flutes, Neil Metcalfe – flute, Emily Shapiro – clarinets, Caroline Kraabel – alto saxophone / voice, Steve Beresford, Bill Gilliam – piano, Douglas Benford – harmonium, Sue Ferrar, Olivia Moore, Philipp Wachsmann – violin, Dave Tucker, Jerry Wigens – guitar, David Fowler – drums, Pat Thomas - Moog Theremini.
Conductors will be some or all of the following: Ashley Wales, Bill Gilliam, Caroline Kraabel, Pat Thomas, Philipp Wachsmann, Steve Beresford and Dave Tucker.
Bill Gilliam from Canada will be just one of the guests when LIO plays again at Iklectik, on Sunday 2nd September. We will also be pleased to welcome back Rowland Sutherland on woodwinds.
